Medical Director
DVM, MPH
Peg Villanueva (Dr. V as we call her) grew up in the city of Chicago, where, at the age of 4, she told her grandmother that she would be a veterinarian one day. Her grandparents were in attendance at her graduation from the University of Illinois-College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989.
Dr. V worked in a mixed animal practice in Michigan for two years after graduation. She switched to small animal practice after the birth of her first child in 2001. She worked for many years in a regulatory capacity in the harness racing industry for the State of Michigan, and worked full time for the humane society, all while owning a small animal practice. During this time, she also earned a Master's in Public Health-General Epidemiology from the University of Michigan.
In 2007, Dr. Villanueva moved her family south to Indianapolis to accept the position of Program Director for the Vet Tech Institute in Indianapolis, a position which she held for 10 years. But, as her children grew and left home, she found herself drawn back into small animal practice at VCA Shadeland Animal Hospital. In 2017, she left the school to go back to practice full-time.
Today, Dr. V is the Medical Director for both VCA Eagle Park and VCA Village Park at the Range Animal Hospitals. When she is not working, she spends time with her 5 grown children, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 6 birds. She enjoys reading, horseback riding, and traveling.
