Staff Veterinarian
DVM
Dr. Wetzel is a longtime San Diego County resident, having grown up in Poway, California. She decided she wanted to be a veterinarian at seven years old after forming a special bond with her family's beagle named Baxter. Dr. Wetzel earned her B.S. at the University of California Davis, where she met her husband and adopted their beloved dachshund, Cali. She then moved to the Midwest to attend veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. She misses the cheese curds, kayaking in their many lakes, and checking out frozen waterfalls during the winter, but she is very happy to be back home in sunny California. Dr. Wetzel completed a rotating internship at VCA California Veterinary Specialists-Murrieta, and shortly afterwards adopted their second pet, another dachshund named Simba. Her clinical interests include preventive care, pain management pharmacology, end of life palliative care, and client education. Outside of work, Dr. Wetzel enjoys taking the dogs to Dog Beach, cooking (including making her own kombucha), and spending time with her friends and family.
