After attending Sweet Briar College in Lynchburg, Virginia, Dr. Mays graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2007. VCA Chancellor in Fredericksburg hired her shortly after graduating where she flourished under their experienced mentorship. With six plus years of experience under her belt, Dr. Mays decided to take on the more challenging role of medical director and transferred to VCA Pets First in Richmond, Virginia at the beginning of 2014.
Dr. Mays has a passion for small animals including exotic pocket pets. She has an interest in dermatology, especially pets with chronic puritis (itching). She also has an interest in helping owners and pets deal with behavior problems. The most rewarding part of her job is getting to know clients and their pets and facilitating the growth of the human animal bond through the years. Her goal is to be an advocate for the pet which means doing her best to keep them healthy, as well as being there for them when they are sick. Currently Dr. Mays lives with three dogs, three cats, and she has a small hobby flock of Ancona and Muscovy ducks.
When Asked Why: I love animals, love people, and love science. Veterinary medicine was the perfect way to combine all of my passions. I have a job I am excited to go to every day.
