Dr. Chalker was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She attended the University of Florida earning a bachelor's degree in microbiology and then went on to earn her veterinary degree at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated in 1990 and then completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine from 1990 to 1991. Dr. Chalker then began private practice at Rock Creek Animal Hospital in Cooper City (suburb of Ft. Lauderdale). She eventually became the medical director of VCA Rock Creek Animal Hospital for the 10 years prior to her move to Crawfordville. She and her family decided to move to Crawfordville for the small-town atmosphere and to rediscover the Florida they remembered. Dr. Chalker moved to Crawfordville in 2007 with her husband, William, and daughter, Amanda. They currently own Pepper, an Australian shepherd (mini), and Nugget, a CHAT alley cat.
Dr. Chalker's veterinary interests include internal medicine, dermatology and soft tissue surgery. She also loves feline medicine. In her free time (what's that?) she enjoys reading novels, walking and spending time with her family.
According to her mom, Dr. Chalker wanted to be a veterinarian since she was about seven years old and never wavered from that desire. Even after 23 years as a veterinarian, she is never bored and is always amazed at how animals heal and grateful that she has an ability to help make their lives a little better.
