Emergency Care

Please call us at (607) 734-5261 if you have an emergency, and our answering service will put you in contact with a doctor or technician who is handling emergency coverage.

VCA Chemung Valley Animal Hospital clients have after hour emergency care available through a combination of local veterinarians and Cornell University Hospital for Companion Animals. Chemung Valley Veterinary Clinic, Towne and Country Veterinary Hospital, Corning Animal Hospital, Lake Road Animal Hospital, Broadway Animal Hospital, Agape Veterinary Clinic and Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital provide coverage on a rotating basis.

These hospitals provide coverage on Monday-Friday from 5:00-9:00 PM. Pets needing to be seen from 9:00 PM until 8:00 AM the following morning will be referred to Cornell University Hospital for Companion Animals.

Saturday emergencies are covered by Towne and Country Veterinary Hospital from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM. After 7:00 PM, all emergencies are referred to Cornell until 9:00 AM on Sunday morning.

Sunday emergencies are covered by six of the local hospitals listed above on a rotating basis from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. All pets needing to be seen from 5:00 PM on Sunday until 8:00 AM on Monday, are referred to Cornell University Hospital for Companion Animals.

All holiday emergencies are covered by Cornell University Hospital for Companion Animals.

Driving Directions:

  • Take NYS 17/86 East to Elmira; continue on NYS 17/86 to the interchange with NYS 13 in Horseheads.
  • Turn right onto the ramp for NYS 13 North to Ithaca.
  • In Ithaca, turn right onto Green Street (NYS 79) and go about 7 blocks. Stay to the right as Green Street intersects with East State Street; continue up the hill on East State Street.
  • At the stop light near the top of the hill, stay in the right lane and continue up the hill (the left lane turns left).
  • At the intersection with NYS 366, turn left onto NYS 366 toward Cornell University.
  • Continue straight on NYS 366 (past a stone building on the right that is a Mobil gas station).
  • At the yield sign at the fork in the road, bear right. Continue approximately 1 mile, through a blinking light, to Tower Road: turn left onto Tower Road and take the first right into the hospital parking
  • lot.
  • Park in the designated client parking areas, on the left, for the Companion Animal Hospital.
