DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT AND PREVENTION
COMPLETE OPHTHALMIC CARE FOR YOUR PET

The ophthalmology practice works with primary care veterinarians, other specialists and the MOVEH emergency department veterinarians to help diagnose, treat and prevent animal eye diseases.

We are fully equipped for complete ophthalmic examinations, diagnostics and advanced ophthalmic surgical procedures. In addition, we offer examinations to detect heritable diseases of the dog and cat, including OFA certification examinations. We also have the ability to assess patients with decreased vision or cataracts with ultrasound biomicroscopy, electroretinography, retinoscopy and colorimetric screening tests. Routine diagnostic tests include Schirmer tear test to detect “dry eye”, tonometry to measure intraocular pressure, fluorescein staining to detect corneal ulcers amongst other advanced diagnostics.

If treatment is indicated, we can provide medical and/or surgical treatment to help restore a patient’s ocular health and improve their quality of life.

THE OPHTHALMIC TEAM ROUTINELY PERFORMS SURGICAL PROCEDURES INCLUDING:

  • Cataract surgery by phacoemulsification with artificial lens implantation
  • Plastic surgery to repair eyelid defects (both acquired and heritable)
  • Corneal surgery
  • Glaucoma surgery including transscleral and endoscopic laser cyclophotocoagulation
  • Retinopexies to treat and prevent certain types of retinal detachments
  • Management of ocular neoplasia
  • Salvage surgery and ocular prosthetics for chronically blind and painful eyes
