DNA Breed Testing

Do you have a mixed breed dog?

Around half of the dogs in America are mixed breed which leaves many owners guessing their dog????????s breed makeup. Knowing your dog????????s breed can help answer questions about their health, appearance and behavioral characteristics. Some dog breeds are more prone to different types of diseases. For instance, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels???????? are prone to Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) and Dobermans???????? are prone to Cervical Vertebral Instability also known as Wobbler Syndrome. Using Wisdom Panel MX your dogs breed can be determined with a simple blood test.

                  Pixel's Story

????

Dr. Carol Helfer adopted Pixel from a shelter in Idaho 2 years ago. Pixel weighs around 20lbs and has one blue eye and one brown to go with her red, white and merle coloring. She is determined and incredibly energetic and really could run for hours. Pixel would be an amazing agility dog if she paid less attention to the other dogs. With Pixel????????s odd coloring Carol was curious to know what her genetic makeup was. Here are a few of our staff's guesses:

  • Kelpie
  • Sheltie
  • Australian Shepherd
  • Cattle Dog

After sending in a small sample of Pixel????????s blood, we waited patiently for results. The test usually takes about 2-4 weeks. Drum roll please . . . .
Pixel????????s DNA showed 50% Cardigan Welsh Corgi & the remaining 50% was a combination of more than 3 breeds . . .Pixel is a mixed, mixed breed! Carol was astonished but, after further consideration and comparison with Zoe, another Cardigan Welsh Corgi (shown above), she could see some  similarities. You can find more images of Pixel along with her DNA Test results by clicking through the images above.
