Dr. Wheeler is a native Floridian and spent most of her life in Apopka, FL. Since childhood, she has had a great love for animals and an interest in medicine and science. She can recall the realization of life and death as she was stomping ants in the driveway as a child and suddenly felt tremendous remorse for what she was doing. Her parents even found her trying to revive frogs and lizards that their cats caught by giving them chest compressions with her finger (it didn't work).
She attended college at Wake Forest University where she was a chemistry major, played clarinet in the band, and even high jumped for a year on the track team. Dr. Wheeler finally fulfilled her dream of becoming a veterinarian at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Following veterinary school, she moved back to the Orlando area, where she completed a small animal internship at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland. This was a wonderful year of education where she gained exposure to surgical, medical, and neurologic cases under the supervision of board-certified specialists. After completing her internship in 2011, she practiced at Longwood Veterinary Clinic for 3 years before coming back "home" to Apopka.
Dr. Wheeler loves being a veterinarian and the new "family" that she has gained in both the team and clientele of VCA Sheeler Road Animal Hospital. Each and every team member considers our patients as our top priority. She looks forward to becoming a bigger part of the Apopka community and getting to know you while having the privilege of caring for your loved ones.
Outside of work, Dr. Wheeler enjoys spending time with her family and outdoor activities. Her husband, Gary, is currently in graduate school and they have a son, Wesley, and a daughter, Elena.
