Penelope Buechner
DVM, DACVO
Penelope graduated from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the top of her veterinary technology class in 2003. She then worked as a veterinary technician at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine where she specialized as an ophthalmology technician and discovered her passion for veterinary ophthalmology. In 2006, she achieved early admission to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine following two years of undergraduate studies. Penelope graduated with distinction in 2010 and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a one year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Following the internship she was accepted to a three year comparative ophthalmology residency with Eye Care for Animals in Phoenix, Arizona, which she completed in June 2014. She has passed her ophthalmology board examinations and is a board certified diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Medicine. Penelope has practiced in the Edmonton area since 2015. Her area of research interest is corneal disease and has published her previous findings in the Veterinary Ophthalmology Journal. She is practicing at Guardian Veterinary Center, with her outstanding veterinary ophthalmology team, pending immigration to the United States. She and her family are planning to relocate to Concord New Hampshire to be closer to family. When not working, Penelope enjoys camping, hiking and spending time with her husband Arlen, two beautiful children and her English Labrador puppy, Rufus.
