A Dorchester, MA native, Dr. Ron Buffman describes himself as the "typical kid" who would bring home bird nests, orphaned squirrels and chipmunks — among other things. For Dr. Buffman, his love of helping animals comes from a deep reverence for both their stoicism and how they respond to being helped.
"I am always amazed at how [animals] seem to know you're helping them even at the worst times," he observes. "Unlike people, animals seem to be able to tolerate a lot of pain in their lives. People tend to complain about every little ache, unlike animals who just seem to want to have a good life. Overall, I know it sounds corny, but I think I have one of the best jobs on the planet."
Dr. Buffman earned his bachelor's degree in animal ecology from Iowa State University and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Buffman's special interests include cardiology and internal medicine. He has been working at VCA Lloyd Animal Hospital since 1991.
Outside work, Dr. Buffman enjoys windsurfing - his primary passion - mountain biking, rollerblading, hiking and a good movie. He also recently earned his pilot's license and goes flying whenever he has the chance. His cat's name is Taz.
