Matthew Barnes
Veterinarian DVM
Matt was born and raised in Toronto and from an early age was fascinated with all aspects of the natural world. Like many budding biologists, early influences included the Kratt brothers, Steve Irwin and David Attenborough. As he delved deeper into the science of life throughout his education, his interests shifted towards the rapidly evolving field of medicine. After graduating from Queen's University with a degree in Life Sciences, Matt realized veterinary medicine was the perfect confluence of interests and he worked in several veterinary clinics in Toronto before pursuing his veterinary education in Glasgow, Scotland.

After years overseas hiking through the highlands, he has returned to Canada to practice emergency medicine. Areas of special interest include ophthalmology, neurology, and internal medicine. Outside of work Matt likes to stay active and spend time in nature and can be found hiking, mountain biking, and foraging for wild edibles. After a long day of work, he can be found cuddling up to his two couch companions, Leonard and Hubert.
